About Autism Friendly Care
A free directory of healthcare practices that work with autistic patients. Each listing shows the accommodation details patients and families need before they book.
Who is behind this
Autism Friendly Care is built and run by one family, through Autism Friendly Care LLC. That is the whole team.
One of us has an autistic son. Finding doctors who would accommodate him meant calling office after office and asking the same questions.
We built this directory so no one has to start those calls from scratch.
Why this exists
Patients and families need to know more than a practice’s address and specialty.
They need to know whether the staff have worked with autistic patients, and what the office can accommodate. Headphones during a cleaning, or the first appointment of the day.
Practice websites rarely say. So we ask, write the answers down, and record who told us.
How a listing gets here
Every listing starts as a public record from the national provider registry. That is the bare minimum: a name, an address, a specialty.
A listing becomes enriched when we add detail from the practice or its own materials.
It becomes verified when we confirm those details with the practice directly.
Each listing shows which of those it is, and when it was last checked. See exactly what each level means.
Registry data comes from the public NPPES file. ZIP code locations use GeoNames data (CC BY 4.0), and the map is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Not reported is not the same as not offered
If a practice told us they do not offer something, the listing says so. If nobody has asked yet, the listing says that instead.
Those are different facts and we never merge them. A blank means nobody has asked yet.
How this is paid for
The directory is free to use and always will be. There are no ads and no advertising trackers.
Practices can pay to show more photos and to see anonymous counts of nearby searches. Nothing else about a listing changes with payment.
Paying never changes where a practice appears in your results, and never affects whether it shows as verified.
The code that orders results cannot see whether a practice pays. It was built that way on purpose.
Things we will not do
- No star ratings. We do not average experiences into a number out of five. We describe practices. We do not score them.
- No selling of rank or verification. Neither can be bought.
- No claiming more than we checked. We say “works with autistic patients”, not “specializes in autism”, unless that is the practice’s own board certification.
- No selling your data. Not to practices, not to anyone. See the privacy policy.
